Thongchai Srisukprasert

b. 1963, currently resides and works  in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Thongchai Srisukprasert originates from Chiang Mai. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Thai Art from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. From 1991 to 2018, Srisukpraseri served as a full-time lecturer in the Thai Art Department, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. Additionally, from 1997 to 2009, he also served as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Bangkok University. In 2019, Srisukprasert decided to retire early to become an independent artist, dedicating 27 years to teaching and nurturing creativity in visual arts for his students.

Thongchai Srisukprasert, along with Panya Vijinthanasarn and Chalermchai Kositpipat, both of whom are today recognized as the national artists of Thailand, volunteered to paint murals at Wat Buddhapadipa in London, England. He produced artwork while fulfilling his role as a lecturer. The Thai aesthetic of Srisukprasert’s artwork, which reflects his cultural roots in northern Thailand, distinguishes it. He has engaged in a range of contemporary art practices, encompassing painting, sculpture, mixed media, and traditional Thai arts. He has received numerous honors, including the Outstanding Art Award at Toshiba Thailand Co., Ltd.’s inaugural “Bringing Good Things to Life” Art Exhibition, the Best Art Award at Kasikorn Bank’s 1990 Contemporary Art Competition, and numerous Bualuang Painting Awards.

Srisukprasert has continuously showcased his artwork in both solo and group exhibitions. He has had solo exhibitions at various prestigious venues, including the 1992 Contemporary Thai Art Exhibition at the National Gallery, Bangkok; the 1995 Contemporary Thai Art Exhibition at the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University; the 2006 “Intangible – Tangible” Contemporary Thai Art Exhibition at Nine Art Gallery, Chiang Rai; the 2008 “Mahabhinishkramana” Contemporary Thai Art Exhibition at ARDEL’s Third Place Gallery, Bangkok; the 2012 “Logiyadhama” Contemporary Thai Art Exhibition at ARDEL’s Third Place Gallery, Bangkok; and the 2020 “Aspiration: Thongchai Srisukprasert 1981-2020,” which compiled works from 1981 to 2020 and was published as a book. Most recently, in 2022, he was honored with an exhibition titled “TANGIBLE: INTANGIBLE,” organized by the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, celebrating his international achievements. Srisukprasert has founded the “Hall Zin Tao” as a center for learning and study in visual arts in the local community of Chiang Mai. This initiative was inspired by the works of two renowned national artists: Thawan Duchanee’s The Black House Chiang Rai ( Baan Dam Museum ) and Chalermchai Kositpipat’s the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun).
