b. 1985, currently resides and works in Udon Thani, Thailand.
Assistant Professor Amarin Bupphasiri received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. He has developed his painting practice continuously over the years and has been recognized within the Thai art scene since the early stage of his career for his ability to articulate contemporary concerns through a distinct visual language rooted in technical precision and careful observation.
Throughout his career, Amarin has received numerous awards and creative grants from major art competitions and institutions. In 2009, he received the Second Prize Excellent Award from the 11th Panasonic Contemporary Painting Competition; the Silver Medal, Silpa Bhirasri Award, from the 26th Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artists; and the Krung Thai Bank Support Award from the 55th National Exhibition of Art. Earlier recognitions include an Art Creation Grant from the General Prem Tinsulanonda Statesman Foundation in 2008; an Outstanding Award from the 20th Toshiba Art Competition, Bring Good Things to Life, in the same year; an Honorable Mention from the Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Sanam Chandra Palace painting competition in 2007; an Outstanding Award from the 1st Silpakorn Pradit Art Competition in 2006; the Third Prize from the 13th HHK Painting Contest in 2005; and the First Prize from the 3rd International Poster Competition for Children and Youth organized by the United Nations Population Fund in 2004.
His exhibition history reflects a sustained presence in both solo and group exhibitions. Notable solo exhibitions include NONSENSE at Ardel Gallery in 2017, Alone at Ardel Gallery in 2012, and his first solo exhibition, Student, at DOB Hualamphong Gallery in 2009. He has also participated in several important group exhibitions, including the 10th Panasonic Contemporary Painting Exhibition and the 4th Amata Art Award Exhibition in 2008, the 24th Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artists in 2007, the 23rd Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artists in 2006, and the 7th Panasonic Contemporary Painting Exhibition in 2004.
Amarin is especially noted for his mastery of oil on canvas in a high realism style. Through precise form and meticulously rendered detail, he creates images that are visually compelling while quietly interrogating the conditions of contemporary life. His works often reflect on adolescent isolation, imitative behavior, and the emptiness of values shaped by the age of social media. Exaggerated figures and symbolic distortions recur throughout his paintings, whether in the image of a schoolgirl with enlarged facial proportions and oversized eyes or in box-like forms enclosing the head, suggesting self-containment, estrangement, and a gradual disconnection from lived reality. His works are held in the collections of important art institutions, including Mirror No. 5 in the collection of MOCA BANGKOK and Mirror No. 6 in the care of Silpakorn University. Alongside his work as an artist, he currently serves as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Udon Thani Rajabhat University.
