Unveiling Leather: The Language of Modularity explores the dualities of leather art in both two- and three-dimensional forms. Rooted in the principles of proportion and modernist clarity, the exhibition places modularity at its core, investigating how adaptable forms can respond to the transformations of space and existence.

Seven artists, Francois Weiss, Latthapon Korkiatarkul, Pannaphan Yodmanee, Samita Rungkwansiriroj, Soichiro Shimizu, Terawat Teankaprasith, and Trey Hurst, bring diverse approaches to this medium. In their hands, leather is seen not only as surface but also as structure. It balances strength with pliability and precision with fluidity. Stretched into panels, stitched into grids, folded into volume, or layered into rhythmic patterns, each gesture turns leather into a module, a building block capable of repetition and reconfiguration. Some emphasize clarity with geometric sequences that echo architectural proportions. Others allow the material’s resistance to flex and twist, suggesting more organic outcomes.

Together their works integrate traditional and contemporary innovations with artisanal expertise. Leather defies the conventions of craft, appearing in diverse forms such as sculpture, woven objects, or painterly compositions, while conveying both function and emotion. Each piece begins with admiration for the material and a deep respect for generational craftsmanship, evolving with the times. As a whole, the exhibition presents leather as a living medium, capable of carrying memory, embodying proportion, and shaping new ideas. Widsanupong Noonan explores evolution by using the heart as a central motif, reflecting development, adaptability, and biological processes. His work captures the interplay of life, sacrifice, and evolution, emphasizing learning and adaptation over force. The 1:4 scale emphasizes how interdependent and delicate life is in the display. All living things display distinct adaptations and achievements; humans are not special. Each work emphasizes the commonalities between cultural and biological understandings of mammals. Through the medium of art, Noonan is able to shed light on hidden relationships, re-creating moments that call for interdisciplinary comprehension.

“Imitating nature” and “learning through questioning” are the core themes of this exhibition. Nature has spent billions of years refining its systems through experimentation and adaptation. The exhibition challenges visitors to rethink their relationship with the natural world, urging them to become thoughtful questions in an era where answers are easily found, yet meaningful questions remain elusive. After all, every significant innovation begins with a single question—just as the origin of “life” eventually led to the evolution of “mammals.”
